Acute complications of permanent pacemaker implantation: their financial implication and relation to volume and operator experience

In an effort to assess permanent pacemaker surgical complication rates and the financial implications, all pacemaker surgeries at our institution were analyzed over a 30-month period. Pacemaker implantations were evaluated for acute complications, adverse clinical events after implantation, total cost of complicated and uncomplicated care, and the incremental cost of complicated care.
