Outcome of infants with hypoplastic left heart syndrome who undergo atrial septostomy before heart transplantation

      Although several studies have described the safety and efficacy of atrial septostomy in other congenital heart defects, there have been no published reports specifically evaluating the outcome of atrial septostomy in infants with hypoplastic left heart syndrome.

      This study examines the prevalence of patients with hypoplastic left heart syndrome requiring atrial septostomy, compares the pretransplant outcome of infants who had an atrial septostomy with those who did not, and compares the post-transplant outcome of these 2 groups.
