      with great interest, recently published in the journal. The investigators reported that B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) assessed at hospital discharge is a significant predictor of both 30- and 60-day hospital re-admissions.

      Use of Biomarkers to Predict readmission for congestive heart failure.
      Measurement of galectin-3 in addition to BNP at the time of hospital discharge provides significant improvement in prediction of hospital re-admission within 60 days, particularly in the heart failure (HF) with preserved ejection fraction and nonischemic cardiomyopathy populations. Their data suggest that measuring BNP and galectin-3 at discharge could be useful to help identify those at-risk of re-admission and aid in efficiently implementing appropriate interventions, such as guideline-directed medical therapy and close outpatient follow-up, to reduce re-admission rates.
