A new device for automatic measurements of arterial stiffness and ankle-brachial index

      Considering the increasing emphasis placed on primary prevention of cardiovascular disease, the development of noninvasive techniques to identify high-risk patients and to assess the prognosis of future atherosclerotic burden is critical. Recently, a new clinical testing device (Colin VP-2000; Colin Medical Instruments, San Antonio, Texas) was developed to simultaneously measure arterial stiffness, ankle-brachial index, and brachial blood pressure. The primary aim of the present study was to evaluate the accuracy and the variability of this automatic device. We compared arterial stiffness and ankle blood pressure values obtained with the device with those measured with manual methods.
