Prevalence, etiology, and outcome of patients with restrictive left ventricular filling and relatively preserved systolic function

      Several studies have shown that in patients with systolic dysfunction, a restrictive left ventricular (LV) filling pattern (characterized on Doppler echocardiography by a shortened E-wave deceleration time, compatible with increased LV filling pressure) independently predicts outcome.

      Independent and incremental prognostic value of Doppler-derived mitral deceleration time of early filling in both symptomatic and asymptomatic patients with left ventricular dysfunction.
      However, because these studies failed to include patients with relatively preserved LV function, little is known about the impact of a restrictive filling pattern (RFP) in this patient group. In this retrospective matched-controlled study, we assessed the prevalence of RFPs in patients with relatively preserved LV function and compared their clinical correlates with those of a group of patients matched according to their systolic LV function.
