Cost-saving approach to normal technetium-99m sestamibi myocardial perfusion scan
Abstract
In summary, a study of 116 patients who had a normal poststress technetium-99m sestamibi myocardial perfusion scan but no second, resting scan reported neither cardiac mortality nor myocardial infarction at 1 year of follow-up. Early processing and interpretation of a normal poststress scan, without obtaining the resting scan, was found to be as safe as the current protocol while avoiding the needless expense of time, money, and resources in giving 2 separate injections to obtain both scans.
